Let’s just take a look and know about the Olympic heroes from India.
Neeraj Chopra: Gold
Neeraj Chopra 23 years old made history for India to win the first-ever Olympic gold in athletics. Chopra becomes the second Indian athlete after Abhinav Bindra as well as the youngest-ever Indian gold medallist in an individual event and the only one to have won gold in his Olympic debut. 23 years old guy who has defeated the best Javelin athletics all around the world and clinched the Gold for India.
Neeraj Chopra works for the Indian army and he is the consistent performer for India and won the gold in 2016 as junior world champion. He also won the gold in the 2018 Asian games and 2018 commonwealth games.
Saikhom Mirabai Chanu: Silver
Mirabai Chanu 26 years old made history and ended up the wait of 21 years for the weight lifting medal at the Olympics to win the silver medal in the 49 kgs weightlifting category. Chanu lifted 155 kgs in the jerk while 87 kgs in the clean and helped India to won the first Olympic medal in Tokyo. The first weight lifting medal was won by Karnam Malleswari in 2000 and Chanu become the second India to win the Olympics medal.
Ravi Kumar Dhaiya: Silver
Ravi Kumar 23 years old won the silver medal in the final match of the men’s 57kg freestyle event.
He is also a bronze medallist from the 2019 World Wrestling Championships and a two-time Asian champion. Ravi Kumar becomes the second Indian wrestler after Sushil Kumar and the fifth wrestler to win the Olympic medal after KD Jadhav, Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, and Sakshi Malik.
Ravi reached the finals by defeating Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhstan a former world champion silver-medallist. Ravi won the game by a good margin of 2-9.
P. V. Sindhu: Bronze
PV Sindhu 26 years old is the only Indian athlete to win the two Olympic medals for India, Tokyo she has finished with Bronze and she won the silver in Rio five years back. At the whole event PV Sindhu dominated her opponents and winning the clear matches, at the semi-finals, Chinese Tapie Tai Tzu-Ying defeated her with 21-18 and 21-13. PV Sindhu is the first Indian to become the Badminton World Champion. She is the recipient of the sports honour Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, and the Padma Shri India’s fourth-highest civilian award, as well as she, was also honoured with Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in India, in January 2020.
Lovlina Borgohain: Bronze
Lovlina Borgohain the one of the youngest Indian female boxers 23 years old debutant won the bronze after being defeated by Turkey’s amateur Busenaz Surmeneli. She became the third Indian to win the Olympic medal for India in boxing after Vijender Singh and Mary Kom. Lovlina Borgohain made India always proud previously in 2018 and 2019 in AIBA Woman’s World Boxing Championships she won the bronze.
She also won the bronze medal at the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and the 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. She won the gold medal at the 1st India Open International Boxing Tournament held in New Delhi and the silver medal at the 2nd India Open International Boxing Tournament held in Guwahati.
Bajrang Punia: Bronze
Bajrang Punia 26 years old freestyle wrestler won the bronze medal match of the men’s 65kg freestyle category by 8-0. It is the 6th medal for India in Tokyo Olympics and 2nd in freestyle wrestling. He’s currently number 1 in the 65 kg weight category. He is the only Indian wrestler to win 3 medals at the World Wrestling Championships. Bajrang Punia has a long list of the medals he won in Commonwealth games 2014 he got silver and in 2018 he won bronze. In the Asian championship, he won 7 medals including 2 golds, 3 silver, and 2 bronze.
Men’s Hockey Team: Bronze
Indian men’s hockey ends up the 4 decades wait for an Olympic medal. Indian men’s hockey team has amazingly played the whole event and ended up with the bronze after defeating one of the strongest teams Germany by 5-4. Simranjeet Singh, Hardik Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Rupinder Pal Singh become the hero of India, and goalkeeper PR Sreejesh is officially named as “THE WALL” to save the goals in the entire tournament.
The first match of Indian men’s hockey was very dominated and won it by 3-2, but in next match, Austrian team pushed back Indian team and defeated by 7-1, later in the other matches Indian hockey team boost up itself and enters into semi-finals where Belgium defeats India.
