Wishing you and your family a happy Easter! Easter is one of the most important holidays in the Christian faith and is widely observed around the world. Christians celebrate Easter to rejoice the resurrection of their messiah, Jesus Christ. The date for Easter changes each year according to the lunisolar calendar. However, the holiday always takes place on a Sunday between March 22nd and April 25th.
Although it is a holiday strongly linked with the Christian faith, a majority of the traditions associated with Easter come from much older pagan festivals that celebrate the beginning of Spring. The origin of the word “Easter” is widely believed to be from the name of the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring and fertility, Eostre or Eostrae. This is backed by the fact one of the most widely practiced Easter traditions is decorating eggs, which are viewed as a symbol of fertility in most cultures. Decorating eggs is also something easy and fun to do with your family members!
Even if you do not celebrate Easter, this is a great time to learn how to cook a new recipe, surprise a family member with a gift, or decorate eggs. We all need something to keep our minds off the global pandemic and what better way than trying something new! Easter and spring mark a time of new beginnings and the promise of new life. Let us all be hopeful and look forward to a promising future.
May you feel the hope of new beginnings!
